WHY WE LOVE IT

Big Baldy was our first longer summit as we started taking hiking more seriously. It’s definitely a steeper trail but you get a great view of TIMP on your way up and at the summit. A great spot for the classic view of Utah Valley.

THINGS TO KNOW

We hiked Big Baldy during the summer. START EARLY! It’s going to get VERY HOT. You don’t want to start this in the middle of the day with the sun beating directly on you. I remember reaching the end of the trail, seeing people starting it in the early afternoon and thinking, I’m so glad that’s not me! Bring layers as it’s a little chillier in the morning but you will want to shed them as it gets warmer. Bring a lunch/late breakfast to enjoy at the summit before you head back down!

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE
WHEN TO GO

We’ve only done this hike in the summer, but I’m sure it’s just as beautiful in the fall! The rolling green hills in the summer are magical, and we definitely had a Lord of the Rings moment as we reached the summit. Just remember to start early so you don’t get baked by the sun! There are shady parts along the trail, but just as many exposed areas. So bring your water and sunscreen!
